“The Art and Folly of Protest” part 2 – Sentenced to Death for Claiming Police Brutality While Imprisoned for Supporting the Mahsa Amini Protests

A year and a half later, and we get to revisit our very first episode topic, back in the news again! Today on Something’s Happening Here, we share the sad tale of Toomaj Salehi, who has recently been condemned to death in Iran for the heinous crime of speaking publicly about being tortured by police while in jail for believing a woman should not be beaten to death while in police custody for wearing her hijab wrong, and saying so out loud. And I’m not making up a single detail of that, amazingly. Our debut episode “For the Love of God” looked at this story, and now we get to look at its aftermath. In many ways it is the precise opposite of Monday’s show to be “Sentenced to Death for Claiming Police Brutality While Imprisoned for Supporting the Mahsa Amini Protests.”
